Clevises are fork-shaped structures that correspond to a "U". Clevises can accommodate components within the fork. To secure the clevis, a split pin is pulled through the securing pin of the clevises and secured. Steel or stainless steel is usually used in the manufacture of clevises.
A very interesting type of mounting are clevises made of stainless steel. Such securing elements serve a single purpose! In this article, let us teach you everything you need to know about these wonderful clevises as securing elements, so that you can quickly understand how such clevises work and what function these elements are supposed to fulfil. When talking about clevises, we would also like to discuss the materials from which such clevises can be made. However, we would like to start with the construction of clevises. Basically, a clevis can be a kind of bent sheet metal that corresponds to a U as a bent part. Within this clevis there is always a locking bolt, which can be secured by means of a locking ring or a split pin, which can be released again. In this way the bolt can be easily removed or replaced. At the lower part of the clevis a kind of attachment is created, which creates another possibility to connect the head with another component safely. Usually this is always done by a thread, but we will come to this in more detail in the following paragraph. But what task can a clevis take over? This question is relatively easy to answer. The function is relatively simple. A clevis joint is always an instrument that allows changes of direction to other moving parts through its integration. If such a clevis is now hooked into a flat steel lever with a bore, the head can move freely around the bore. The further attachment to the threaded attachment on the clevis head can now act in a different direction. In this way, changes in direction and force can be quickly diverted without having to deal with serious radial or axial play. Very popular materials in the production of clevises are clearly stainless steel as V2A or V4A. These two alloys protect the material from corrosion and destruction. What would life be in mechanical engineering and many other industries if there were no clevises made of metal. In this article, we would like to go into more detail about the function that clevises allow and the applications they are intended to fulfill in industry. In the same way, we would like to discuss the materials of which clevises can be made in order to make them suitable for the various fields of application. We would also like to explain to you how such elements are constructed and also what our stock is like in order to be able to supply you with the right clevises made of steel or stainless steel. The last section will deal with the production of metal clevises and which production methods are used today. We would like to start with the construction of clevises here as well. A clevis basically consists of a metal fork. This fork has a through-hole in the upper edge of the head. Below the fork is the receptacle with the thread. A clevis is a safety element which can never be used without a spring bolt. Clevises have a very special task to fulfil. The transmission of force is to be transferred by a clevis in another direction. The clevis must always be attached to a component, movable through a hole. Clevises are often attached to components so that they can move and the clevis is bolted to a cylinder or its piston rod. In this way, the force can be transmitted from the cylinder or the piston rod to the component so that the direction of force is changed. When mounting a clevis joint, the clevis joint with the through-hole must always be aligned centrically to the component bore and can then be secured by inserting the spring pivot pin through the holes. Afterwards, the folding spring bolt only has to be engaged over the shaft of the clevis joint and the connection is secured. The materials used in the industry are mostly bare steel heads, which are usually provided with a surface protection coating to counteract corrosion. This coating can consist of nickel or other materials. However, if you want more protection against corrosion, there is no getting around the stainless steel in the clevises. With the stainless steel alloy one differentiates between two verriations. On the one hand it is the stainless steel V2A, which is usually completely sufficient in contact with water, or the alloy of stainless steel, which consists of V4A. Only this alloy is absolutely resistant to salt water and is also used at sea, i.e. on boats and yachts and also in the chemical industry where acids and alkalis are used.
Clevises with external thread
Clevises are used today in many branches of industry to divert certain movement sequences in other directions so that technical systems function safely. The outgoing attachment to the clevis is decisive here. For example, clevises with an external thread can be screwed into practically all nut holders. These are then secured by a further hexagon nut after correct adjustment. This is the perfect solution for a clean assembly of a clevis with an external thread.
Clevises with female thread
Another outgoing type of attachment for the clevises is the clevis with an internal thread. This version of a head corresponds to the screw connection to a screw or threaded rod in order to transmit the forces to other machine parts. Often these clevises with a female thread are the more suitable solutions when space-saving mounting in machines and technical systems is required.
Our delivery program of clevises - buy online in our online shop
Clevises with a female or male thread have not been available as directional changing elements for that long. These parts only became really important in the industry when industrialisation progressed further. This only really began between the first and second world war. When machines and technical equipment required more and more complex components, the clevis with an external or internal thread was the perfect direction-changing element, which has been steadily increasing in demand since then. So the online dealers also have to meet the necessary demand for clevises more and more to be able to meet the demand. For this reason we decided some time ago to add clevises with an internal thread and also with an external thread to our wide range of products and to offer them to our customers from Germany and the rest of Europe at a reasonable price. With our online shop we offer our customers the possibility to buy their clevises with an external or internal thread fast and cheap online. In a short insight, we would like to show you how an optimal and fast purchase of such a clevis should be made. Surely you have found us through a large search engine, which has displayed our category of clevises and you are now with us. Now choose the right clevises and put them into the shopping cart. The production of clevises as milled part or as sheet metal part
Having arrived at the last article, we would like to introduce you to the production methods for clevises with an internal or external thread, so that you can also get a small insight into how such processes work. We would also like to start with the presentation of a clevis as a milled part. A milling machine is always used for this. Here, the milling is done in the middle using a side milling cutter and the side holes are drilled through the fork head. At the lower part, the threaded hole is now inserted, which can be provided as an internal thread or external thread. If, however, a clevis is to be manufactured with an external thread or also with an internal thread as a sheet metal bending part, the manufacturing porosity is fundamentally different. First of all, the sheet metal part must be cut out on a CNC laser machine as an unfolded element. Now the bending to a clevis is done, whereby the drillings are already inserted. Now the welding on of the bolt with the internal thread or the threaded pin as external thread takes place. Now only the socket pin with the collar has to be produced on a lathe and then secured with a circlip. This manufacturing process is repeated until the necessary quantities are together and can be stored in our warehouse. As always in the last section we come to the production of metal clevises. Of course, many of you probably know exactly how a clevis can be attached to a component correctly and quickly in conjunction with a folding spring bolt. But that is not what this is all about, it is the pure production of such elements. In order to produce such a head with the fork economically, it is all the more important that production can be carried out on ultra-modern machines. Quality is the first priority and economy is the second. In order to produce such elements, ultramodern CNC machines are used today. These are, as should be the case, usually equipped with a loader so that the supply of raw material, i.e. the square as solid stainless steel or as square mild steel, can be fed into the machine at the right time and processed. Only in this way is a fully automatic production of fork heads possible, which have a high accuracy. First of all, the CNC program must be loaded, so that all data such as feeds and speeds are stored. Then the production can start. First of all a disc cutter is used to cut a recess and the square. The fork of the head has been created. Now the cross hole is inserted, through which the fork head passes. All edges must be deburred and the corners must be broken. Now the collar is turned at the clevises, where later the spring bolt can engage. Since the threaded hole at the clevises is continuous, the core hole can be drilled directly. Afterwards the thread cutting is done and the head is almost finished. Now only the clevises must be cut off, so that it falls into the collection box. If there are enough finished elements in the box, they can be cleaned and stored in our warehouse. Now the finished clevises are just waiting for you to buy them. Once this is done, we can pack the elements and send them to you via the transport company.
