Storm hooks made of stainless steel or steel are very popular today in the boat sector, i.e. in boat building or yacht building. As small as these steel or stainless steel helpers can be, most people only notice when they are missing or defective. Storm hooks are curved structures that have two types of fasteners. These fasteners are used, as the name suggests, for fastening to a door leaf or other rigid structure. The opposite side can then also be attached to a door made of wood. By means of the screws the base plates are then attached to the respective Substrate.

Stainless steel storm hook for boats and yachts

Storm hooks made of stainless steel or steel are used today in every conceivable design. This means that these storm hooks are available in various designs. Such storm hooks can be used as pure bent wire parts, or as castings. Storm hooks made of stainless steel as castings, usually fulfill the same effect, but these storm hooks often look visually better. Such cast storm hooks are then still polished to a high gloss to be used on a yacht or boat. Especially on yachts or boats, such fasteners can be found everywhere and frequently. The mounting plate is always equipped with holes, so that these can be used and should also, with the appropriate screws to make a connection to the substrate. Once one side of the steel or stainless steel storm hook is screwed to a door frame and the hook itself is still hanging down, the opposite part can be attached. This hook part has a bow. This bracket or arch will later accept the hook of the storm hook and can be hooked into it. Once the hook is hooked, the door can no longer be opened. At least from the opposite side. The hook is usually constructed in such a way that when it is pulled, it pulls even tighter and can no longer be opened due to the increasing pressure. The construction of a storm hook made of wire is simpler. These are bent only by the wire to be processed and gifted into the desired shape of the storm hook.

The different stainless steel and steel storm hooks

Storm Hooks Stainless steelStorm hooks have already been described in detail in the previous article. We have also already gone into the two basic designs in great detail. Within this article, however, we would like to go into more detail about how storm hooks can be manufactured. If we talk about a storm hook made of stainless steel or steel which is produced from a continuous wire, the description of the production of such a storm hook is quite simple and not very complex. Let's start with the fact that there must be a wire bending machine in which the wire is inserted. Once the program is loaded and the wire is pulled into the machine, the bending of the new storm hook can begin. To do this, first the stirrup is bent into the desired shape and then the storm hook itself is bent as well. At the end, an eyelet must be bent on. This eye is then anchored in the screw that is turned into the wood. The opposite screw piece then holds the hook of the storm hook. The far more complex part of making a storm hook by the casting principle, is the casting. Casting a hook by means of a liquid stainless steel or a steel, is by far more complex. For this purpose, a mold or an impression of the future storm hook must always be made. Once this process is completed, it can come to the actual casting process of the storm hook. Here, the mold is crucial. Then the liquid steel or stainless steel can be poured in. After cooling, the blank of the storm hook is removed and can be machined into the desired shape. Finally, the storm hook usually appears in a highly polished finish.
